If a Ctrl-key is used by sugar, Esc-Esc followed by the key should work.
Eg, C-O s/b Esc-Esc O

3. Misc buttons
Gamepad - 4-position circle on the left
Game controller - 4-button on the right
screen rotation - small on lower left
no dedicated page that I can find, gamepad mentioned under OlpcWiki:Hardware_specification#Integrated_peripherals - “Gamepad: Two sets of four-direction cursor-control keys;”

The grab keys have a very specific (yet unrealized) purpose. They are supposed to carry much of the weight currently placed on scroll bars, which are often unfriendly. The behavior will mimic that of Mac laptops’ two-fingered scrolling, allowing one to pan around any scrolling view while holding this key. (source)
4. Personal
I’ve bound the quake-terminal to <ALT>-t (or M-t, emacs-style; what format to I want to use?)
In Emacs,
M-< runs the command beginning-of-buffer
M-> runs the command end-of-buffer
which are usually obtained via alt-shift-, and alt-shift-.
but on the XO, the same key-seqence yields the angle-quotation marks « and » (« and » - 171/187)
I can’t seem to actually bind to the char it outputs.
some info at http://osdir.com/ml/emacs.w3.devel/2003-11/msg00000.html
see the refs at http://xahlee.org/emacs/keyboard_shortcuts.html to see if any useful
UPDATE the sequence of keystrokes is improtant! shift-alt-<key> yields the angle-quotes, but alt-shift-<key> provides the desired behavior.
5. Stuck keys
When my CTRL key gets stuck, I press firmly in a circular motion — wiggling it around about 5 time, and it usually unsticks. I haven’t resorted to pulling the case apart, yet.
