I gotta say, that tone is unctuous, but not nearly as annoying as supertexted “[citation needed]” every time something that isn’t 100% common knowledge is present on a page. “In basic math, ‘2 + 2 = 4′ [citation needed]” -GAHHHH!
There was a very interesting point of shift pointed in one of the linked articles: at some point, wikipedia switched from “writing an encyclopedia on the internet” to “being an encyclopedia on the internet.”
