March 2nd, 2005A man goes to the doctor. “Doctor,” he says. “You must help me. I am sad. So horribly sad. Everything I do reminds me of so much hurt and pain. I can’t sleep, I can’t eat; even my job overwhelms me with grief. What can I do?”
“Ah,” said the doctor, slowly, puffing on his pipe. “You need to laugh. Laughter will conquer your grief and lead you into the light. Fortunately, the great clown Pagliacci is in town. Go see him perform, and you will laugh, and your life will return to its happiness.”
“But doctor, you don’t understand,” wept the man. “I am Pagliacici.”
