Programming: Gnu Win 32

General Notes

http://gnuwin32.sourceforge.net/
Wikipedia:GnuWin32

Windows ports of tools like grep, find, cat, chmod, etc. Well worth it for grep and find and ls

Since there is a win32-native tool called “find”, you will need to add the Gnu Win 32 directory to your PATH prior to the Windows dirs.

of particular interest is the Core Utilities (CoreUtils) package, Diff Utils, Find Utils, and Grep

Seriously. You need these, if you want a sane shell.

There is an automated downloader tool, but I don’t have much experience with it.

Alternatives

TODO: much of this stuff is bundled with the cmder shell I now use (cc 2014+).

Aspell

nice to connect to Emacs
http://aspell.net/win32/

install both Aspell, and at least one (uh, English, for me?!!!) dictionary
