Hackers, Stephen Levy - read in high school; have I read it since then?
Extra Life: Coming of Age in Cyberspace, David S. Bennahum - other than the annoying subtitle (how many books have used that? I read “Coming of Age in New Jersey” in college; I suppose it’s not that bad) it’s alright. flounders around a bit; the chronology is weird, and that could be a in media res technique, but doesn’t quite work. There are some very interesting elements -- digital calulator pen, high school computer room, the ethics of the friend who cracked the password -- wanted more of that. The gritty elements didn’t work so well -- they were good to show some contrast, but it felt voyeuristic to talk about his parents floundering marriage and his sister’s acting out.
